Magnetic Door Holders release upon fire alarm
Magnetic Door Holders should release upon fire alarm. These are the magnets that hold door open in hallways and other areas and they drop when the fire alarm is activated.
Maglocks for access control should also release when the fire alarm is activated.
Often door holders are 120 volt so an additional relay is required to turn off the power.
When we power the door holders using 24 volt off the fire panel the power is turned off by the fire panel automatically when the fire panel goes into alarm.
Magnetic door holders shut so that the fire, air and smoke is contained.
Maglocks for the access control is released so people can get out of the building when there is a fire.
Some exceptions to this would be secure areas in prisons or secure areas in a hospital for a nursery.
We can provide a relay that is tied to the fire alarm system that will break the power during a fire alarm and we can provide those at each door or if approved one relay at the access control system that will release all the doors at once.
Often hospitals have a system that will lock the doors and disable the elevator if a baby is taken out of the nursery area without permission. Sometimes this is referred to as a HUGS system although there are other brands that do the same thing. The baby has a tag put on the body and if the tag is cut off or tampered with or if the baby is taken out of the area the area locks down.
Some hospitals only release the doors if there is actual smoke on either side of the locked doors. Each situation is different although there are specific codes for fire egress and for access control systems. Also the fire marshal needs to approve anything out of the ordinary .
