Fire panel in com failure?
Analog phone lines going away
Digital Phone lines do not meet code and are not a direct replacement for analog
Digital phone lines have the top and the bottom of the sine wave cut off and often communications are lost.
With analog phone lines going away often what happens is they get turned off and your phone company replaces them with digital lines that do not have UL listed fire alarm battery backup for 24 hours as required by code and these digital phone systems do not grab or seize the phone lines as the system did with analog and the voltage is different and often your Elevators phone will not send the account number and the address because that is done with equipment that does not work well with digital lines.
You fire alarm panel will look for the voltage that is is used to which is between 48-54 volts and when it does not see that with the phone line it will go into COM FAIL and you will get troubles on your panel and the phone company will blame the alarm company and the alarm company will say that they did not do anything and the equipment is working just fine and it is but the phone lines were changed.
Installing a CELLULAR COMMUNICATOR that is UL listed for FIRE will solve this issue and give you what you need. Often you can also have one of the paths of communication be IP.
The old phone lines would check in every 24 hours or every 6 hours and cellular and IP can be configured to check in more often.
