Analog phones for Fire Alarm
Analog lines are POTS Plain Old Telephone Lines = Copper not digital and they are going away little by little and becoming more expensive.
Analog lines or POTS Plain Old Telephone lines have 48-54 volts and they can be wired to seize the line and this is copper wire.
In Aug 2023 the Government told the phone companies they no longer had to service POTS lines so mostly the systems are digital lines which cannot be seized nor do they have UL listed battery backup and they cut the top and the bottom off of the sine wave so signals are lost. This is VOIP Voice Over IP and they work well with voice but not so well with a computer talking to another company that that is what is happening with fire alarm.
Therre are SIP lines as well which are better but they still don’t meet the requirements needed for fire alarm.
POTS lines are costing over $100 per month each and digital lines are much less and installing a cellular unit on your security or fire alarm will solve this issue.
