New code Apartments and Hotels
Example of Apartment building fire alarm from the past:
In the past you could install smoke alarms in all the rooms which are the less expensive 120 volt smoke alarms with 9 volt battery backup and normally they are not tied to the fire alarm unless they have a relay output in which case they can be tied to the system for monitoring.
Now the new IBC 2021 Adopted code requires that the Smoke Alarms in the units have low frequency bases that sound at 520mhz which wakes people up better than the old sound requirement although this cannot happen yet because there are no manufactures that make a SMOKE ALARM with a low frequency base.
Some Engineers are designing the systems with a 120 volt combination smoke alarm and CO alarm and these also do not have the low frequency bases nor can they tie to the fire alarm to activate the alarm in either Temporal 3 or Temporal 4 code for the CO alarm.
The solution is the Simplex Fire Alarm addressable appliances/devices for Horns, Strobes, Horn Strobes Chimes and Speaker strobes so we can program the Low Frequency horns or horn strobes to activate just in that room if there is an alarm in that unit or two or more detectors are activated the system would activate all the notification in the building.
We would install addressable system detectors in the rooms either with low frequency bases or with low frequency horns.
Code requires a certain number of rooms to have strobes in the restrooms and low frequency horn strobes in the ADA rooms.
Engineers and code also require that when you install the system you make it possible to convert any room into an ADA room and doing this means we would run an extra wire circuit for LF Horn Strobes to all the rooms and a circuit to all the restrooms so when they convert a room to an ADA room that you can take the cover plate off an add the strobe.
