State law requires these inspections on the fire alarm at least once a year. If your panel is not functioning and monitored by a UL listed central station and tested annually often insurance companies will not honor claims when there is an incident.

Simplex addressable horn strobes and speakers strobes can be tested without bothering the tenants or workers because our panel can give you a report of any horn strobes that are not functional and this test is UL listed. No other brand other than Simplex has addressable horn strobes and speaker strobes that are UL listed to function and be tested in this fashion.

Parts and Smarts or equipment and programming means that Johnson Controls Fire Protection will provide the equipment and the Electrical Contractor will install the equipment providing any high voltage work needed and providing and installing the wire, devices and appliances. Johnson Controls will then come in and program, test, certify and train the end user on the system as well as provide monitoring.

Many projects specify smoke alarms or CO alarms that are 120V with 9 volt battery backup and these alarms are not tied to any fire alarm system and the code requires that they have low frequency sounders and as of 2024 non of the brands offer or make low frequency sounders for these alarms so Simplex has Low Frequency Sounders that are addressable and meet the IBC 2021 code.

IBC 2021 907.5.1 through 907.5.2.3. specifically 907.5.2.1.3.2 (In sleeping rooms of group R-1 and R-2 occupancies that are required by section 907.2.8 or 907.2.9 to have a fire alarm system, the audible alarm signal activated by single or multiple- station smoke alarm in the dwelling unit or sleeping unit shall be a 520 Hz signal complying with NFPA 72. Where a sleeping room smoke alarm is unable to produce a 520-Hz signal, the 520-Hz alarm signal shall be provided by a listed notification appliance or a smoke detector with an integral 520-Hz sounder.) The 120 V smoke alarms and 24 V smoke detectors are very different since the detectors tie to the system and the smoke alarms do not.

Some smoke alarms with a relay output can be monitored with a monitor module although it is not the best way to do a professional fire installation. Part of the issue is that you are depending on a less expensive piece of equipment that is made for residential applications and we don’t sell or service 120V smoke alarms so when we tie to it often if there are issues with the detectors you need to have an electrical contractor come and work on the high voltage systems whereas if you had low voltage smoke detectors installed all the parts would be part of the same system.

Smoke Alarms cost much less than a smoke detector so when you try to save money often the fire marshal will require that each smoke be monitored so it can cause issues later on.
