Most security contractors provide you with quality equipment because they want the equipment to work properly for a long time so you will continue the monitoring for an extended length of time. Having said that I need to clarify something about security contractors. Currently in Utah there are many companies that have Burglar Alarm licenses and their main business is to install residential wireless systems. The salesmen are high pressure and many times they have a crew waiting to install the system the same day. They will use double stick tape and put up the contacts and the system within an hour or two. If your security contractor gained his or her experience in one of these types of companies they may not be as familiar with other hardwired security equipment as they should be. Many of the panels that are used in these types of applications are low cost and cannot expand to meet any additional needs.

Ask questions and ask for cut sheets before the equipment is installed. Motion detectors are like cars in the fact that you can purchase less expensive model that might not have all the features of the high end model or you can purchase one that has a long range beam etc....There are some detectors that are less expensive that are very dependable. Ask your security contractor what the advantage of having a dual tech detector compared to a normal PIR. If your contractor does not offer you the advantage of having a water bug installed to your system ask them about it. This low cost flood detector will dial out on the same system as the security system if there is a flood. Glass break detectors are not needed most of the time unless the window that is damaged will allow the weather to damage equipment in the building. If this is a possibility then you may want to consider glass break detectors. If you contact all the doors and windows on the perimeter then you can arm the outside perimeter while you are still in the building. This is a great option for employees staying late. Motion detectors should be placed strategically and you can reduce the amount of detectors you have to install. PEAK ALARM can set your system up with several different partitions so different employees have different codes for arming and disarming different areas of the building. Last week I went on a job site visit for access control and the owner wants the access control system to disarm his new security system. He would like it to disarm just that door where the person is entering in. We normally can do this just fine but this owner just had one of those companies I mentioned that installed a wireless residential system in a business so the panel that was installed cannot partition so they either have to change the panel out or just not do it the way they wanted to do it.
