Comparing alarm companies in Utah?

Do your research before buying

When comparing alarm companies do a bit of research first. Here are some points to help you get the best value:

Check the Better Business Bureau www.bbb.org before buying from any company. Often by overlooking this step you may get what you feel is a good deal and free equipment only to be put in a bind where you have to wait on hold 30 minutes just to be transferred to another department, given the run around and then cut off. If you don't like buying services from a company that you can't call easily it won't be any better calling that same company for services they are not experts in.

Sort through local and National Companies carefully. Some of the National companies have thousands of complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau and they don't care. They are making so much money they don't care if people complain. Often local companies will strive to provide the best service so consider buying local. Peak Alarm has only had one complaint filed in the last 3 years with the Better Business Bureau. http://www.peakalarm.com Mountain Alarm (Fire Protection Services) has only had two complaints filed in the last 3 years. www.mountainalarm.com

Both of these companies are licensed, insured and local companies. Both of these companies have an incredible record with the Better Business Bureau. Now consider a company that has over 3700 complaints and ask yourself why they have that many. One such company is a large company and my manager told me that their company is 83 times as large as our company as far as accounts go. So I responded, shouldn't they have just 83 complaints compared to our 1 then? No they have over 3700 complaints.

There are some companies that have DO IT YOURSELF INSTALLATION equipment and very low monitoring rates. Do the research on this as well because often computers will handle the calls or very low paid employees that are not even in the country. Sometimes the owner can follow the instructions and install a system like this just fine. Often the DO IT YOURSELF equipment is very limited as to the features, often these systems have a limit as to how many zones or points can be added. The systems normally cannot partition and sometimes not having the installation done by a professional really does cause problems. Weigh the PROS and the CONS and you decide.

Ask if the company has live monitoring and if the central station is UL listed?
