Why should I avoid a big box store camera system?

When a product is quite a bit less expensive you need to question why.

Mystery meat is one thing but mystery camera systems is another. Often what happens is someone will come to Peak Alarm for a real system after having purchased these cheap camera systems from a big box store.

Peak Alarm offers solutions to your camera needs at very reasonable prices with high quality equipment.

When you pay for a professional installation using quality equipment you will note that there is a very big difference. It is the same with cars. A luxury car is made quite differently from an entry level car built for the masses.

1. Many times the equipment will be questionable and when you do the math sometimes you end up getting a camera system for $50 or $100 dollars per camera. Think about it carefully, you do get what you pay for.

2. Much of the time the cable and the connectors are not universal but will only work with that particular system so my advice is to buy 2 or three of those systems so you have replacements because later on the factories do not build or support many of these low end systems when trying to get parts.

3. IP and Analog cameras are very different and with IP you get a much higher resolution. IP cameras can also have very similar specifications yet be very different. We have an awesome quality camera that is 2.8mm to 12mm Verifocal, IP66 weather rated, 3MP, vandal dome for $400 dollars yet we also offer an AXIS brand camera with very similar specifications for over $1000 each.

4. Do you want to be able to recognize people or identify them? Lower end cameras often leave much to be desired when you want to provide the police with a disk or USB stick. The differences between AXIS cameras and big box store cameras are like night and day.

5. Peak Alarm has over 46 years of experience and is licensed, insured and factory trained to install camera systems. I am an AXIS CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL and many other employees and techs here at Peak Alarm also have this same certification. In order to obtain this we took a week course and a grueling test which not everyone passed. Others had to study, review and then retake the test to pass it.
